Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Lytvyn highly appreciates the level of bilateral relations between Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova.

"Our steady relations are rapidly developing", V. Lytvyn declared on Friday, meeting Prime Minister of Moldova Vladimir Filat. "Ukraine attaches great importance to your visit which should boost the bilateral relations."

The Parties stressed that the 20th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Ukraine and Moldova is a good opportunity to extend all-round cooperation.

Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine commented on the fruitful interparliamentary relations between the states. Along these lines, he highly appreciated the results of the visit of Marian Lupu, president of the parliament of Moldova, last September, as the negotiations were marked with a constructive dialogue about further bilateral cooperation. V. Lytvyn also informed that the groups of friendship of both parliaments held a joint session last November.

V. Lytvyn laid emphasis on the fruitful cooperation of the parliamentary delegations of both states at the international organizations, especially, in the CIS IPA.

The head of the Ukrainian parliament asked V. Filat to facilitate ratification of the bilateral agreement on cooperation in the support of rights of national minorities which was signed in December 2009. Implementation of this document should become an effective tool to protect the rights of the Ukrainian community in Moldova, and of the Moldavian community in Ukraine.

V. Lytvyn thinks that an active interparliamentary dialogue will help settle the topical issues of bilateral cooperation and facilitate mutually beneficial cooperation between Ukraine and Moldova.

In his turn, Prime Minister of Moldova said that parliamentary component of the bilateral relations is of utmost importance. "A wide range of issues should be tackled," he said. "Relations with Ukraine are essential for Moldova."

V. Filat invited the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to make an official visit to Ukraine. He expects that a fruitful dialogue concerning further development of cooperation will take place during this visit.
